The REWE Group is one of the leading trade and tourism groups in Germany and Europe, with thousands of supermarkets, travel agencies, and DIY stores. The subsidiary REWE digital (formerly REWE systems) is the in-house IT service and development provider. As many projects initiated on the group level are a mix of operations and technology, which is hard to oversee, the strategic project management office offers interdisciplinary project managers to drive the project, navigate through complexities and form an interface between stakeholders.
The project at hand, Market-specific Sortiments and Layouts (abbreviated MSL), increases customer satisfaction through AI-based optimizations of the assortments for every supermarket based on the market-specific shopping style. Guiding the multiple technological and operational subprojects was already challenging, but creating transparency and enabling effective communication between stakeholders on various organizational levels proved far more demanding. The assignment was to get the project back on track, break down non-helpful organizational behavior and promote an agile approach.
